<p><strong>UCL Fantasy Matchday 2 </strong>tips from <a href="https://twitter.com/kwolf_ff">Kevin Wolf</a> who finished <strong>21st overall </strong>last season.</p>
<p><em>In this <strong>UEFA Champions League Fantasy</strong> article, Kevin discusses his <strong>Wildcard</strong> team for <strong>Matchday 2</strong>, reasons for hitting the button so early, and his upcoming strategy heading into <strong>Matchday 3</strong> and beyond.</em></p>

<h2>Why I&#8217;m Activating the Wildcard &#8211; UCL Fantasy Matchday 2</h2>
<p>Matchday 1 was not the start I wanted coming off such a successful season last year. <strong>Overall, I finished with a total of 42 points and currently sit well off the pace.</strong></p>
<p>Before jumping into any rash decisions, I took a few days to review my team. I picked out five to six players I wanted to remove.</p>
<p>I had a red card issue and also a few injury concerns. <strong>For these reasons (along with my Matchday 1 score), I decided to play my Wildcard chip. </strong></p>
<p>Activating my Wildcard in Matchday 2 was not the original plan and is much earlier than anticipated.</p>
<p>I feel this is a good opportunity to jump on a few differential players. There are great matchups in the coming Matchdays, as I try to catchup in the standings.</p>
<p>Trying to form some sort of strategy moving forward, <strong>Manchester</strong> <strong>City</strong> play <strong>Club</strong> <strong>Brugge</strong> in the early game of <strong>Matchday 3</strong>.</p>
<p>I will most likely try and target two <strong>Manchester</strong> <strong>City</strong> players as my transfers for <strong>Matchday 3</strong>. The Citizens have a great fixture and I will be able to see the starting lineup.</p>

<h2>Limitless Chip Strategy &#8211; UCL Fantasy Matchday 2</h2>
<p><strong>In terms of my Limitless chip, I plan on playing it in the group stage.</strong> I think there is more of an advantage playing it before the knockout rounds as there are better fixtures to target.</p>
<p>I am looking at either <strong>Matchday 4</strong> (<strong>Chelsea</strong> plays <strong>Malmo</strong> in the early game) or <strong>Matchday 6</strong> (<strong>PSG</strong> plays <strong>Club</strong> <strong>Brugge</strong> and <strong>Manchester</strong> <strong>City</strong> plays <strong>Leipzig</strong> in the early games).</p>
<p>The only issue with <strong>Matchday</strong> <strong>6 is players could be rested</strong>. There are other great matchups in each of these Matchdays as well, so it will be a decision to think about in the coming weeks.</p>

<h2>UCL Fantasy Matchday 2 Wildcard</h2>
<h3>Goalkeepers:</h3>
<h4><strong>Yassine Bounou (€5.0m)</strong></h4>
<p>The starting goalkeeper for <strong>Sevilla.</strong> He isn’t the most well-known name and is €0.5m more than I would like to spend at this position.</p>
<p>However, I really don’t see any better options in the <strong>day 2</strong> games. Sevilla are a good defensive side and <strong>Bounou</strong> should pick up a few clean sheets. Playing in Group G, I think he is a solid goalkeeper option.</p>
<h4><strong>Gregor Kobel (€4.5m)</strong></h4>
<p>Will be my second goalkeeper. <strong>Dortmund</strong> have defensive deficiencies but hopefully with <strong>Mats Hummels</strong> back in the lineup they can get a few clean sheets.</p>
<p>Dortmund plays on day 1 and he looks to be the best €4.5m option. Even with Dortmund’s defensive issues, I think Kobel is a solid option for his price.</p>
<p>The other player I am considering at this price is <strong>Porto&#8217;s Diogo Costa (€4.5m) </strong>but his fixtures are more difficult than Kobel&#8217;s.</p>
<h3></h3>
<h3>Defenders:</h3>
<h4><strong>Joshua Kimmich (€6.5m)</strong></h4>
<p>My premium defender pick. I had him in my original team and still believe he is the top defensive option. A major benefit to Kimmich is that he is <strong>classified as a defender playing in midfield</strong>.</p>
<p>In the Bundesliga for <strong>Bayern Munich</strong>, he has <strong>scored three goals in six games</strong>. The German should continue to get offensive points while also collecting clean sheets.</p>
<h4><strong>Eder Militao (€5.0m)</strong></h4>
<p>My <strong>Real Madrid</strong> defender of choice. This is because of his price, starting reassurance, and <strong>ball recoveries.</strong> This pick could easily be <strong>Dani Carvajal (€5.0m)</strong> as he has a little more offensive upside. Yet I feel Militao will start more games in the group stage, so I will be going with him.</p>
<h4><strong>Cesar Azpilicueta (€5.0m)</strong></h4>
<p>The best <strong>Chelsea</strong> defensive pick. Not going for a Chelsea defender was probably my biggest mistake in Matchday 1.</p>
<p>I strongly considered <strong>Antonio Rudiger (€5.5m)</strong> but as of now I can’t extend the €0.5m for him. <strong>Andreas Christensen (€5.0m) </strong>is also a good choice.</p>
<p>The rotation risk with Chelsea applies to all but I feel Azpilicueta will get his fair share of Champions League games.</p>
<h4><strong>Stefan de Vrij (€5.0m)</strong></h4>
<p>He may not be the most well-known player but he is the cheapest nailed on defender for <strong>Inter Milan</strong>. The Dutchman is solely being selected for his clean sheet opportunities and ball recoveries.</p>
<p>Inter play <strong>Sheriff</strong> and <strong>Shakhtar</strong> <strong>Donetsk</strong> twice in the next four, which means clean sheets should be coming.</p>
<h4><strong>Noussair Mazraoui (€4.5m)</strong></h4>
<p>A budget defender playing right back for <strong>Ajax </strong>who are a solid defensive team. <strong>Mazraoui</strong> is also one of the most attacking defenders in the game, he has four goals in seven matches in the Eredivisie so far this season.</p>
<p>He is nailed on to start and has a great matchup against <strong>Besiktas</strong> in <strong>Matchday 2</strong>.</p>
<h3></h3>
<h3>Midfielders:</h3>
<h4><strong>Mohamed Salah (€10.5m)</strong></h4>
<p>The Egyptian is in fine goalscoring form and <strong>Liverpool</strong> are scoring a lot every game. I didn’t go with a premium midfielder in my original team and I feel that was a mistake.</p>
<p>I like Liverpool’s matchup against <strong>Porto</strong> in <strong>Matchday 2</strong> and having a premium midfielder facilitates flexibility for upcoming transfers. Salah is also just a top Fantasy option in any format.</p>
<h4><strong>Jude Bellingham (€7.0m)</strong></h4>
<p>Another mistake I will be looking to rectify. He plays in an attacking role for a very offensive team in <strong>Dortmund. </strong></p>
<p>I think he will build on his <strong>Matchday 1</strong> performance and I like the double up with Dortmund offensive players as they can score against anyone.</p>
<h4><strong>Joao Palhinha (€5.0m)</strong></h4>
<p>A nailed €5.0m midfielder that can produce attacking returns playing for <strong>Sporting</strong>. He can pick up <strong>ball recovery</strong> points and enables money to be spent elsewhere.</p>
<p>Another bonus is that he plays on the first day of games for the next two weeks which makes him an easy substitute if he does not return.</p>
<h4><strong>Geoffrey Kondogbia (€5.0)</strong></h4>
<p>Another €5.0 midfielder with limited offensive upside but his price enables other premiums in my team.</p>
<p>He has been starting for <strong>Atletico Madrid</strong> and picked up <strong>nine ball recoveries</strong> and the <strong>Player of the Match</strong> award in <strong>Matchday 1</strong>.</p>
<h4><strong>Edson Alvarez (€4.5m)</strong></h4>
<p>A midfielder I had in my original team and will also have on my <strong>Wildcard</strong>. He is a good enabler and is owned by 51% of managers playing for <strong>Ajax</strong>.</p>
<p>The Mexican pops up with the odd goal in the <strong>Eredivisie</strong> so I am hoping he can replicate that in the <strong>Champions League</strong>.</p>
<h3></h3>
<h3>Forwards:</h3>
<h4><strong>Robert Lewandowski (€11.5m)</strong></h4>
<p>The first player selected for my <strong>Wildcard</strong> team. I was punished for not going with him in Matchday 1 and I will not be making that mistake again.</p>
<p>He <strong>scored twice</strong> against <strong>Barcelona</strong> and was named <strong>Player of the Match</strong>. The Polish marksman is in red hot form in the Bundesliga too.</p>
<p><strong>Bayern Munich</strong> play <strong>Dynamo Kyiv</strong> and <strong>Benfica</strong> twice in the next four and he will be a top captain choice for all four of those matches. He also only has a <strong>21% ownership</strong> which is rare for a player of Lewandowski’s quality.</p>
<h4><strong>Erling Haaland (€11.0m)</strong></h4>
<p>Was in my <strong>Matchday 1</strong> team and will not be leaving my Wildcard team. He scored a goal in his first game and with his group, he should score plenty more.</p>
<p>The Golden Boy winner is <strong>62% owned</strong> and is as close to a must have as possible. In five matches in the Bundesliga, he has seven goals and will most likely be my captain heading into <strong>day 1 of Matchday 2</strong>.</p>
<h4><strong>Karim Benzema (€10.0m)</strong></h4>
<p>Will be the third forward on my Wildcard team. Playing <strong>Sheriff</strong> and <strong>Shakhtar</strong> <strong>Donetsk</strong> twice in the next four, I back him to score goals.</p>
<p>In seven La Liga games this season, he has tallied eight goals and seven assists. The Frenchman is only <strong>10% owned</strong> and could be the differential pick I need to help climb my rank.</p>

<h2>**HAALAND INJURY PLANS** &#8211; UCL Fantasy Matchday 2</h2>
<p>As most football fans are probably aware, Erling Haaland picked up an injury in training last week and missed Dortmund’s game this weekend. He hasn’t trained as of yet, so his status for this week’s Champions League game is in doubt.</p>
<p>If he looks like he is starting, he is locked in my team but if he is confirmed out, I will have to remove him as he is too expensive to have and not play. You can find the possible changes to my team below:</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Erling Haaland (€11.0m) changes to Sebastien Haller (€8.5m)</strong>
<ul>
<li><strong>Haller</strong> <strong>scored four goals in Matchday 1</strong> and while that production is not sustainable, <strong>Ajax</strong> play <strong>Besiktas</strong>. The former West Ham striker should have plenty of opportunities to score.</li>
<li>This would move my captain from Haaland to <strong>Benzema</strong>.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><strong>Jude Bellingham (€7.0m) changes to Christopher Nkunku (€7.5m)</strong>
<ul>
<li><strong>Nkunku scored a hat trick against Manchester City</strong> so he knows how to score goals. Playing for an offensive team such as Leipzig, he should continue to get plenty of scoring opportunities.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><strong>Joao Palhinha (€5.0m) changes to Brahim Diaz (€6.0)</strong>
<ul>
<li><strong>Diaz</strong> is a much more offensive player than <strong>Palhinha</strong> and has potential to score in most games he plays. <strong>AC Milan</strong> have been a solid team so far this year and with Diaz playing up front, he should get plenty of opportunities for points.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>This leaves me with <strong>€1.0m left in the bank</strong> which will be key to enable transfers in the coming Matchdays.</li>
</ol>
