<h2>Pre-Season Preview</h2>
<p>Last season certainly won't live long in the memory for this team. A finish of 274k was nothing to write home about, which is why I'm glad this new season is just around the corner!</p>
<p>I will review last seasons data below, coupled with a fixture ticker at each position, before showing my draft for the start of the season.</p>
<p>As I type, we're about to find out the final nuggets of information we need. The Community Shield is played on Sunday, and the final friendlies are being played.</p>
<p>So whilst I'll put a draft in below, we are still due more information, and as such, it will be subject to change.</p>
<p>Last season, over 31000 FPL Points were scored, between a total of 568 registered FPL assets that actually scored points. These are broken down as follows, alongside a percentage of our budget allocated to each position:</p>

<p>As you can see, the majority of FPL Points are scored in midfield. The player pool at this position is the biggest, so this does make sense.</p>
<p>However, even rounding up, we can't spend £8m at Goalkeeper, and if we want <strong>Erling Haaland (£15m), </strong>our budget is blown out of the water immediately. So we're going to have to get creative.</p>
<h2>Using FPL Points as a Metric: The data</h2>
<h3>Goalkeepers</h3>

<p>As you can see, our top scoring teams at this position were Arsenal, Everton, Liverpool, West Ham, Newcastle and Manchester United.</p>
<p>The teams conceding the most FPL Points to opposition goalkeepers were Manchester United, Sheffield United, Fulham, Brighton and Everton.</p>
<p>Let's check the opening 5 gameweeks of the new season, for some inspiration:</p>

<p>Fulham, Manchester United and Brighton all play 3 of the teams that conceded the most FPL Points to opposition 'keepers (or newly promoted teams) in their opening 5 games.</p>
<p>Nottingham Forest also have reasonable fixtures, with their defensive numbers considerably better under Nuno Espírito Santo.</p>
<p>I don't want to spend lots of budget here, so someone like a <strong>Matz Sels (£4.5m) </strong>could be ideal. Crystal Palace don't play a "Red" team, and with <strong>Sam Johnstone (£4.5m) </strong>seemingly moving away, <strong>Dean Henderson (£4.5m) </strong>seems certain to start.</p>
<h3>Defenders</h3>

<p>Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton and Newcastle were the Defensive Units scoring the most FPL points.</p>

<p>Fulham have a couple of good opportunities for points in their opening 4 games before hosting Newcastle. Potentially rotation a Fulham defender with an Aston Villa one is something I am considering here.</p>
<p>Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool defenders are all priced accordingly, with players like <strong>Gabriel, </strong><strong>William </strong><b>Saliba </b>&amp;<b> Josko Gvardiol (£6m) </b>on the end of price rises after great seasons. <strong>Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7m) </strong>has had a price drop, but is he still worth it?</p>
<p><strong>Pedro Porro (£5.5m) </strong>has two great fixtures followed by two tough ones, so he is someone else on my radar.</p>
<h3>Midfielders</h3>

<p>Fulham and Liverpool appeal here. Nottingham Forest, Newcastle and Crystal Palace all have decent fixtures too.</p>
<p>With <strong>Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) </strong>being pretty expensive, if we want both him and Haaland, we need to find some bargains here.</p>

<p>Fulham again look good here. <strong>Rodrigo Muniz (£6m) </strong>could be a shrewd investment, alongside <strong>Erling Haaland (£15m)</strong>.</p>
<p><strong> Alexander Isak (£8.5m) </strong>plays teams with poor records against Forwards last season in his opening 5 games, so he could be someone to consider too.</p>
