<p>The £4.5m midfielder bracket is not the most exciting category, but shouldn't be ignored nonetheless.</p>
<p>Just like the <a href="https://fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/who-are-the-best-fpl-budget-goalkeepers/">budget goalkeeper</a> position, the <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/who-are-the-best-fpl-budget-midfielders">fifth midfielder</a> option is often overlooked in Fantasy Premier League.</p>
<p>It’s a rare occurrence that they will ever be needed, but it’s good to have a solid starter to be well prepared. Underlying attacking statistics are not the main focus when selecting your budget midfielder. Security of starts is undoubtedly the most crucial factor, and that is what we will focus on predominantly in this article.</p>

<h2><strong>The Best £4.5m Midfielders in FPL</strong></h2>

<h3><strong>Andreas Pereira (£4.5m) – Fulham</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Andreas Pereira</strong> made his move from Manchester United to Fulham for a reported fee of £8.5m.</p>
<p>Pereira has gone from being a non-existent FPL to option to the best £4.5m midfielder in the game.</p>
<p>He is going to be a nailed starter for the Cottagers in midfield, and can play in a few positions, including as a number 10 which he has already done in one pre-season game.</p>
<p>The Brazilian has some attacking pedigree also, with 30 goals and 28 assists in 281 games over his career.</p>
<p>He has been on loan at Flamengo for the last two seasons, where he managed seven goals and two assists in 31 appearances.</p>
<p>He also has two goals and four assists in 40 Premier League appearances (24 starts). He’s not prolific, but for a £4.5m midfielder you can’t ask for much more</p>
<p>He is currently looking like the perfect first sub for our teams. He will play plenty of minutes and has chances of attacking returns also.</p>
<p>Fulham’s <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker">fixtures</a> to start the season are amongst the most difficult, but from Gameweek 8 onwards they pick up significantly and this is when Pereira might come in very handy for us.</p>
<p>He is by far the highest owned £4.5m midfielder in the game right now at 23.7%.</p>
<p>Furthermore, he has already played 167 minutes in pre-season, and picked up two assists.</p>

<h3><strong>Josh Dasilva (£4.5m) – Brentford</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Josh Dasilva</strong> spent the majority of last season on the treatment table, so only managed two play 250 minutes of Premier League football.</p>
<p>He is now fit, and has been playing plenty of minutes in pre-season (190 so far) and has even managed to notch a goal.</p>
<p>The 23-year-old is a bright prospect, and was a key figure in Brentford's promotion to the PL in 2020/21.</p>
<p>He registered five goals and four assists in 30 appearances before he suffered his injury, which kept him out for more than a year.</p>
<p>In the 2019/20 season, the ex-Arsenal player managed 14 attacking returns in the Championship, with 10 goals and four assists in 34 starts.</p>
<p>This indicates that he has plenty of attacking threat, and at the moment his starting prospects look good.</p>
<p>The departure of <strong>Christian Eriksen </strong>further heightens the youngster's appeal, as he will have a better chance of making the starting midfield, and more minutes in general.</p>
<p>The Bees also have a very kind run of <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker">fixtures</a> to open the season with. They don’t play a top-four team until Gameweek 12, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Dasilva picks up a few attacking returns.</p>
<p>Keep an eye on the remaining fixtures in Brentford’s pre-season, and also any signings they make.</p>

<h3><strong>Jack Colback (£4.5m) – Nottingham Forest </strong></h3>
<p><strong>Jack Colback</strong> is a potential £4.5m starter this season. He started 36 games last season in the Championship, scoring three goals and making one assist.</p>
<p>He played the second half of last season as a left-wing back, but that doesn't look likely this season as Nottingham Forest have acquired <strong>Omar</strong> <strong>Richards (£4.5m)</strong> from Bayern Munich in that position.</p>
<p>His prospects as a regular starter are looking uncertain right now, but on the bright side, he has played the most outfield minutes for his team (323) minutes in pre-season.</p>
<p>I guess we will have to monitor the remaining pre-season games, and any new signings Forest make to get a better picture.</p>
<p>Also, it’s in his favour that he can play multiple positions, so should get a fair amount of minutes at least. We should have a much better idea closer to the deadline.</p>
<p>At the moment though he doesn’t seem worth the risk when we have two better options in <strong>Andreas Pereira</strong> and <strong>Josh</strong> <strong>Dasilva</strong>.</p>

<h2><strong>The Best of the Rest £4.5m FPL Midfielders </strong></h2>
<p><strong>Romeo Lavia </strong>is one of Southampton's newest signings. They signed him from Manchester City and the 18-year-old is a bright prospect.</p>
<p>Although he is highly rated, given his age he may not start the season, but should replace Romeu in due course. He has been heavily involved in the Saints' pre-season, playing 195 minutes so far.</p>
<p><strong>Carney Chukwuemeka</strong> is another promising young player who will probably only come into contention if Aston Villa suffer a few injuries in their midfield.</p>
<p>With John McGinn, Jacob Ramsey and Douglas Luiz first choices, it may be hard for the 18-year-old to get a look-in. Minutes from the bench look most likely.</p>
<p><strong>Jacob Murphy</strong> has been reclassified as a midfielder this season, and plays on the wing for Newcastle United. He has plenty of PL experience, and has played plenty of minutes over the last two seasons – 1457 minutes last term, picking up one goal and four assists.</p>
<p>He scored two goals and made three assists in 2020/21 after playing 1617 minutes. It’s uncertain how much game time he will get as the Toon will no doubt recruit further this summer, but he will get a fair share of minutes I am sure.</p>
<p><strong>Harry Winks</strong> might become an option if he gets a move away to another club. At the moment Everton are favourites for the 26-year-old's signature. He was left out of Tottenham’s pre-season tour so a move to another club looks likely.</p>
<p>If he does indeed leave North London he will get plenty of minutes, as I can't see him changing clubs to sit on the bench again. He is one to monitor for now but of course, if he stays at Spurs he’s pretty much a non-option.</p>

<p>In total there are 55 midfielders priced at £4.5m this season, but the above seem to be the best options for now.  More options may arise from now until Gameweek 1, but I think we have enough good options to fill our benches.</p>
