<p>Saudi Arabia entered qualifying in the Asian confederation as the seventh-highest ranked nation.</p>
<p>This meant they would receive a bye into the second of three stages of qualifying.</p>
<p>The second round saw teams placed into groups of five nations and Saudi Arabia topped theirs, winning six and drawing two.</p>
<p>The Saudis now needed to place in the top two of a six-team group in order to automatically qualify for the World Cup.</p>
<p>Japan, Australia, Oman, China and Vietnam stood in the way - but Saudi Arabia topped their group, eight points ahead of Australia who finished a distant third.</p>
<p>In the first game, it was Saudi Arabia's two top scorers who helped them to three points. <strong>Yasser Al-Shahrani </strong>was the other scorer in a 3-1 win.</p>
<p>A set of 1-0 wins over Oman and Japan followed the opening-day victory, with <strong>Al-Shehri </strong>and striker <b>Firas Al-Buraikan</b> on target.</p>
<p>Saudi Arabia then contested a tight 3-2 win at home to China. They went 2-0 up thanks to a brace from <b>Sami Al-Najei</b>, only for China to hit back. A 72nd minute goal from Al-Buraikan<strong> </strong>put them out of reach.</p>
<p>A goalless draw with Australia came next, while another set of tight 1-0 wins against Vietnam and Oman followed.</p>
<p>Japan handed Saudi Arabia their first defeat of the third round, securing a 2-0 win.</p>
<p>An 82 minute equalising penalty for China meant the Saudis went another game without a win, before <b>Salem Al-Dawsari</b> rounded off qualification with a goal and a 1-0 win over Australia.</p>
<h2><b>Saudi Arabia's form since qualifying for the World Cup 2022</b></h2>
<p>Saudi Arabi finished qualifying at the end of March but played two international friendlies, against Colombia and Venezuela, in June.</p>
<p>Both ended in 1-0 losses.</p>

<h2><b>Do Saudi Arabia have any World Cup warm-up matches?</b></h2>
<p>Saudi Arabia are unusual in the fact they pencilled in no fewer than six friendlies in between the September internationals and the start of the World Cup.</p>
<p>Our form guide will be updated, however they have played North Macedonia, Albania and Honduras in October and will face Iceland, Panama and Croatia in November.</p>
<h2><b>Who is in the Saudi Arabia World Cup 2022 squad?</b></h2>
<p>Saudi Arabia announced their final squad on November 11. It was as below.</p>
<p>A change was then made, with Fahad Al-Muwallad - one of their key players - withdrawn due to ongoing issues over a <a href="https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/al-muwallad-withdrawn-saudi-arabia-world-cup-squad-over-doping-case-2022-11-13/">doping case</a>.</p>
