<p>Tunisia were the second-highest ranked African side at the start of qualifying, behind Senegal.</p>
<p>Receiving a bye to the second round, Tunisia topped their second-round qualifying group which featured Equatorial Guinea, Zambia and Mauritania.</p>
<p>Their record of four wins, one draw and one loss saw them finish on 13 points, two ahead of the Guineans. Just the top team advanced to the third and final round of qualifying.</p>
<p>A 3-0 win over Guinea began set Tunisia's qualifying off on the front foot. Goals from <strong>Dylan Bronn</strong>, <b>Ellyes Skhiri</b> and a <strong>Wahbi Khazri </strong>penalty gave them a comfortable home win.</p>
<p>Khazri scored again from the spot in matchday 2, with <b>Anis Ben Slimane </b>on target in open play for a 2-0 away win over Zambia.</p>
<p>Skhiri and Khazri were on the scoresheet once again in a 3-0 win over Mauritania and <b>Seifeddine Jaziri</b> scored his first goal of qualifying.</p>
<p>Tunisia faced Mauritania again in the next match, which finished 0-0.</p>
<p>Guinea then defeated them with a goal in the 84 minute.</p>
<p>This left them top of the group with one game to spare - but only on goal difference, albeit significantly ahead of the Guineans in this regard.</p>
<p>Guinea could only draw their last match, while Tunisia advanced courtesy of a third 3-0 victory - <b>Aissa Laidouni</b>, <b>Mohamed Drager</b> and <b>Ali Maaloul</b> were the scorers.</p>
<h3>Round three</h3>
<p>The final stage of qualifying was a two-legged tie against another of the second-round group winners.</p>
<p>Tunisia were seeded by virtue of their world ranking - but by now had slipped to the third-highest ranked African side, with Morocco one place above them.</p>
<p>But seeded they were, and they drew Mali - the second-lowest ranked side left in the process.</p>
<p>Both legs were tight. A <strong>Moussa Sissako </strong>goal in the away leg gave Tunisia the narrowest of leads. And that was enough to secure a place in Qatar, with the second leg finishing 0-0.</p>
<h2><b>Tunisia's form since qualifying for the World Cup 2022</b></h2>
<p>Tunisia qualified for the World Cup at the end of March.</p>
<p>June saw two Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches played.</p>
<p>The first saw Tunisia pitted against their World Cup qualifying rivals Equatorial Guinea, with a 4-0 win featuring a brace from <strong>Youssef Msakni </strong>and goals from <strong>Naim Sliti</strong> and Jaziri.</p>
<p>Botswana then held Tunisia to a goalless draw.</p>
<p>Tunisia played two international friendlies in June, with both resulting in wins away from home.</p>
<p><strong>Ali Abdi </strong>and <strong>Issam Jebali </strong>scored and <strong>Aymen Dahmen </strong>saved a penalty in a 2-0 win over Chile.</p>
<p>And Japan - a fellow World Cup side - were defeated 3-0 in their own backyard, with Jebali, <strong>Ferjani Sassi</strong> and <strong>Mohamed Romdhane </strong>giving them a confidence-boosting victory.</p>
<p>A tough test against former World Cup winners Brazil in September was Tunisia's final chance to prepare for Qatar. They lost 5-1.
