<p>Wout Weghorst has joined Manchester United on loan, cutting short his spell at Turkish club Besiktas &#8211; but what are the Dutchman&#8217;s FPL and wider fantasy football prospects as a Red Devil?</p>
<p>Having experienced the Premier League as a Burnley player during last season&#8217;s unsuccessful relegation battle, Weghorst now has a second shot in England&#8217;s top division.</p>
<p>The 30-year-old forward is still on the books at Turf Moor, with Vincent Kompany&#8217;s side opting to loan him out while they battle for promotion from the Championship rather than sell him.</p>
<p>Weghorst, whose FPL price has been confirmed at £6.0m, could feature in United&#8217;s FPL Gameweek 20 match against Crystal Palace.</p>

<h2>Wout Weghorst: The history</h2>
<p>Weghorst began his senior career at Dutch second division team Emmen in 2012, where he scored 20 in 62 games before earning a move to the Eredivisie with Heracles Almelo.</p>
<p>He helped the club to qualify for the Europa League for the first time, with an almost identical goals to games record as he managed at Emmen &#8211; 20 in 64.</p>
<p>His performances captured the attention of AZ, where he was on target 30 times in 60 appearances.</p>
<p>He was handed his first international call-up in the 2017-18 season, in which he finished joint-third top goalscorer with 18 goals. He also set up six goals for his teammates.</p>
<p>A transfer to Germany followed in the summer of 2018 and again he finished with the joint-third most goals, only this time in the Bundesliga with VfL Wolfsburg.</p>
<p>Weghorst moved to Burnley in the January transfer window of 2022. His <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a> are covered in detail below.</p>
<p>Upon his side&#8217;s relegation to the Championship, the Dutchman was sent on loan to Besiktas.</p>
<h3>World Cup quarter-final brace</h3>
<p>One particular game for Weghorst post-Burnely will stick in many football fans&#8217; minds.</p>
<p>Trailing 2-0 to Argentina in the World Cup quarter-finals in Qatar, the Netherlands sent Weghorst on in the 78th minute.</p>
<p>His contribution was the very definition of the term &#8216;super sub&#8217;. He scored in the 83rd minute and found an equaliser in the 11th minute of added time.</p>
<p>The Oranje ultimately lost on penalties, Weghorst converting his, and Argentina went on to win the tournament.</p>
<p>But the dramatic comeback &#8211; and Weghorst&#8217;s part in it &#8211; went down as a World Cup classic.</p>
<h3>FPL double gameweek disasters</h3>
<p>Burnley had two double gameweeks last season in which Weghorst was firmly on FPL managers&#8217; radars.</p>
<p>He was the <a href="https://twitter.com/OfficialFPL/status/1495767521428914182">most transferred in player</a> ahead of Double Gameweek 27 but managed only three points from his two games.</p>
<p>It didn&#8217;t stop more than 650,000 people keeping the faith in him when Double Gameweek 31 came around but once again, owners were disappointed with another three-pointer.</p>

<h2>Wout Weghorst: FPL, Sky, Dream Team and TFF prospects</h2>
<p>Thanks to Weghorst&#8217;s time at Burnley, we have data on how he has performed a Premier League level.</p>
<p>Eventually relegated Burnley and top-four chasing United are different prospects in both personnel and style of play, however his 2021/22 season <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a> are a good starting point.</p>
<p>The Dutchman scored two goals in 20 games  &#8211; underperforming his expected goals (xG) tally of 3.86.</p>
<p>The vast majority of his efforts on goal &#8211; 24 out of 30 &#8211; came from inside the box.</p>
<p>Headed attempts were not a key part of his offer at the Clarets, with a total of six putting him well down the list of Premier League forwards.</p>
<p>His game was about more than using his 6ft 6ins frame, and his link-up play helped him to contribute three assists.</p>
<p>Weghorst ranked 10th among league forwards for passes into the final third per 90 (2.47).</p>
<p>And his work off the ball will be welcomed by his new manager. He led the way among forwards for blocks per 90 (0.31) and no other player in the league bettered his presses per 90 record of 48.7.</p>
<p>He was also fifth for forwards for ball recoveries per 90.</p>
<p>Defensive and pressing abilities will be of more value to ten Hag than fantasy managers but for the latter, it does breed confidence that he can fit into his countryman&#8217;s system and isn&#8217;t just a target man.</p>

<h3>Besiktas stats</h3>
<p>Weghorst&#8217;s time in Turkey may have been cut short but poor performance wasn&#8217;t a factor.</p>
<p>He scored eight in 16 appearances and further demonstrated his creativity with four assists.</p>
<p>Headed goals were more of a factor than his time in Lancashire, with his three matching the return of United&#8217;s players as a whole.</p>
<p>According to WhoScored, he has registered an average 3.3 shots per game &#8211; 1.4 on target &#8211; 1.1 key passes and an average rating of 7.35.</p>
<p>Keeping up such a rating would appeal to Sun Dream Team managers, with the likelihood of shots bonus on occasion for Sky fans.</p>
<h3>Minutes are key</h3>
<p>But his suitability in all formats will depends on the number of minutes he gets on the pitch.</p>
<p>With Cristiano Ronaldo having departed for Saudi Arabia&#8217;s Al-Nassr, Weghorst&#8217;s main competiton comes from <strong>Anthony Martial</strong>.</p>
<p>Ten Hag admitted prior to United&#8217;s Carabao Cup quarter-final this week that the Frenchman&#8217;s fitness was among the reasons he was keen to recruit another striker. He said:</p>

<p>Weghorst is therefore likely to have a decent supply of minutes, although how often he gets a starting spot will be key, making him one to watch.</p>
