<h2><strong>Best FPL defenders for Gameweek 3</strong></h2>
<h3><strong>Ben Chilwell (£5.7m) – Chelsea</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Fixture: Luton Town (H)</strong></p>
<p>Ben Chilwell has an assist already this season, and although he was subbed off early against West Ham, this did look like a tactical sub from Mauricio Pochettino. I have no doubt he will start the next game and should play the majority of minutes in most games.</p>
<p>He was again playing as a left-winger, with <strong>Levi Colwill (£4.5m)</strong> at left-back just like in Gameweek 1. He created two chances with one shot in the box, and his average position map also showed him to be one of the most advanced players.</p>
<p>Chelsea welcome Luton Town to Stamford Bridge in Gameweek 3, which is probably the best fixture of the season for them.</p>
<p>They will be heavy favourites to win this one, and are the second favourites to keep a clean sheet at 56%. They are also the favourites to score 2.5+ goals (55%) so Chilwell could profit at both ends of the pitch this week.</p>
<p>The 26-year-old is one of the most attacking fullbacks in the league, and as long as he stays fit should get plenty of attacking returns this season.</p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions">Hub AI Tool</a> also ranks him as the highest predicted scoring defender (5.0 points) for Gameweek 3,  and he is also the most likely for anytime returns (72%).</p>

<h3><strong>Pervis Estupinan (£5.2m) – Brighton</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Fixture: West Ham (H)</strong></p>
<p>Pervis Estupinan has had a phenomenal start to the season, and has already increased in price by £0.2m. He has one goal and two assists in his first two matches, with an xG of 0.79 and an xA of 1.52 (both highest among defenders).</p>
<p>He is the highest scoring defender in the game so far, despite keeping no clean sheets.</p>
<p>Brighton have another decent fixture this week, as they welcome West Ham to the Amex. The Hammers have started the season well with four goals in their first two games, but playing the Seagulls away from home isn't going to be easy.</p>
<p>Roberto De Zerbi’s men will be strong favourites for this game and are at a healthy 42% to keep a clean sheet in Gameweek 3.</p>
<p>They have conceded a goal each in their first two games, but were a top-six defence last season, so I do expect them to keep a fair amount of clean sheets.</p>
<p>Estupinan is so good going forward that he will be a good option against any opposition. He is nailed to start, and will have chances at both ends of the pitch.</p>
<p>The Ecuadorian is the second highest predicted scoring defender (4.6 points) according to the <strong><a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions">Hub AI Tool.</a></strong></p>
<p>He is also at 71% (second) for anytime returns, which for defenders is a clean sheet, goal, or assist.</p>

<h3><strong>Ruben Dias (£5.5m) – Manchester City</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Fixture: Sheffield United (a)</strong></p>
<p>Ruben Dias is the most nailed defender for Manchester City, although we know this doesn’t mean he will start every game.</p>
<p>The Manchester City options have always been a problem due to the amount of rotation, but early in the season is probably the best time to invest in them before the Champions League starts. Also, with <strong>John Stones (£5.4m)</strong> ruled out until the international break, Dias should be safe for the next two at least.</p>
<p>City have a fantastic fixture in Gameweek 3 as they come up against newly promoted Sheffield United (a).</p>
<p>Pep Guardiola’s team conceded the fewest goals last season, and also had the best xGC (expected goals conceded). It’s likely they will top those metrics again, as they are the best defence in the league.</p>
<p>They are the favourites to keep a clean sheet in Gameweek 3, at a mammoth 60%, and there are few times in the season we get a percentage that high. It's no surprise looking at the difference in quality between the two teams, however.</p>
<p>Dias also has a bit of attacking threat in him. He scored two goals and five assists in the 2021/22 season, and although he had no attacking returns last campaign, the Portuguese did register an xG of 1.36.</p>
<p>He isn't the most attacking of defenders, but the clean sheet chance this week is as high as you’ll get.</p>
<p>City have already kept two clean sheets in their first two games.</p>

<h3><strong>Luke Shaw (£5.5m) – Manchester United</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Fixture: Nottingham Forest (H)</strong></p>
<p>Luke Shaw is the best defensive option for Manchester United. He is nailed to start and has the best attacking threat from his defence.</p>
<p>The 28-year-old had one goal and four assists last season.</p>
<p>Manchester United have a great fixture this week from a defensive perspective. They face Nottingham Forest at home, and although they have had a poor start to the season, this is their easiest fixture so far.</p>
<p>Forest have been decent in the opening two games, but they did score the fifth least (38) goals last season with the second worst xGC (38.79).</p>
<p>They haven't really reinforced their attack much, with <strong>Anthony Elanga (£5.0m)</strong> being the only notable attacker they have signed.</p>
<p>United meanwhile kept the most clean sheets (17) and conceded the second least (43) goals. They should keep a fair amount of clean sheets again, and despite their bad start, they are still a top-six defensive team.</p>
<p>They are the fourth favourites (48%) to keep a clean sheet in Gameweek 3.</p>
<p>Shaw is the fourth highest predicted scoring defender (4.3) this week according to our <strong><a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions">Hub AI Tool.</a></strong></p>

<h3><strong>William Saliba (£5.0m) – Arsenal</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Fixture: Fulham (H)</strong></p>
<p>William Saliba is currently looking like the most nailed Arsenal defender. He has started the first two games, kept one clean sheet, and has another plum fixture this week.</p>
<p>The Gunners come up against Fulham at home in Gameweek 3, who have only managed one goal so far, and with last season's top goal scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic securing his move to Saudi club Al Hilal, they will have less goal threat.</p>
<p><strong>Raul Jimenez (£5.5m)</strong> is their main forward now, and with six goals in the last two seasons, they are likely to score fewer goals this season.</p>
<p>Arsenal are the second or third best defence in the league, and will be amongst the best teams for clean sheets this term.</p>
<p>Mikel Arteta’s team kept 14 clean sheets (second best), conceding 43 goals (second least) with an xGC of 47.5 (third best).</p>
<p>Saliba should start again, and he has a great chance to keep another clean sheet here.</p>
<p>The Gunners are the third favourites to keep a clean sheet (50%) in Gameweek 3 against the Cottagers.</p>
