<p>Ghana topped their group in qualification to reach the qualifying play-off – beating South Africa, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe to first place.</p>
<p>This set up a play-off fixture against fierce rivals Nigeria for a spot at the World Cup.</p>
<p>Ghana were eventually victorious, but in the most dramatic of circumstances.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">After a goalless first home leg, Arsenal's <strong>Thomas Partey</strong> scored the crucial away goal for Ghana inside 10 minutes.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">Nigeria's <strong>William Troost-Ekong</strong> equalised from the penalty spot soon after, with <strong>Victor Osimhen</strong> having a Nigeria winner ruled out by VAR for offside.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">Despite the scares, Ghana held on for a draw, narrowly reaching the 2022 World Cup thanks to the away goals rule.</p>
